UNIT 7

FREERUNNER

The first time experimenting with unity I had to make a terrain and playing with skyboxes and placing trees. I then added directional light to add shadows and experimenting with water and although it was hard and hard to understand unity and keep backtracking trying to find objects.

Grass was added to make the ground less flat and for floral

FINAL NYC ROOFTOP

WORK IN PROGRESS

The final show of the unity I imported my NYC Rooftop that I made in MAYA and be able to run around on the roof top look down onto other roofs and the streets. The overall setting I chose was to be dark and a full moon shining light down on to the buildings. I also added to point light to light up the area and object to walk around on. I also played around with particle effects adding smoke sparks, dust storm and fire.

In the progression video I was just walking through the environment trying to see what needs to be scaled down and getting to overall feeling and where I need to add lights and any other details and shadows. There were some issues but could be easily fix.

Evaluation

The unity was a challenging project and probably spend hours to figure out the how to work the ladder and after that I would go back and look at the research that I have done unit 4 for the MAYA project.  Some issues like the modelling was to many polygons and made the unity lag and had to backtrack to debug and found that the textures where to big and made me go back and remodelled and deleting some models. Adding thing like fire made it more or less bland and dust and fog floating around in the air to make you see the depth as I walk around.

Here are two images they are both similar in away because they are both construction sites and half made buildings and a crane. Both give the sense of scale and draw distance. The actual New York images shows reflection of other building in them and are a lot higher. The cranes add to the emersion and also looking up to the crane on the right gives almost frightening feel of height and the night sky and fog adds to it as well. The New York one rather has a light mist effect as a white or blue showing us that the builds are further away.

Here I found an image of Grand Theft Auto 4 showing the main character on the roof looking onto the ground and over to some other rooftops. Looking at the textures it’s well made and the lighting casting shadows. The draw distance also has the bluish tint as things go further away. In my unity I tried to capture something similar looking over to the other buildings and adding a feel of depth to the camera. The fog adds a bit more realism to the image and added other particle effects such as smoke coming from the chimneys, sparks to broke lights.
